Beirut Blast Leaves The City In Harrow
byAugust 6, 2020
A massive explosion shook the Lebanese capital Beirut, killing people as smoke was seen rising over the city.
Reports have it that the blast occurred in the port area containing warehouses. The explosion rippled through various regions of the capital, shattering windows and doors, injuring people;
"I saw a ball of fire and smoke rising over Beirut. People were screaming and running, bleeding. Balconies were torn from buildings. The glass in the buildings broke and fell on the streets."
Lebanon's internal security chief Abbas Ibrahim said that the massive blast in Beirut's port area occurred in a section housing highly-explosive materials. It was not explosive, as had been reported earlier by the official state news agency NNA.
He declined to speculate about the cause of the explosion in Lebanon's capital, saying;
"we cannot preempt investigations."
Lebanon's prime minister Hasan Diab declared Wednesday, August 5, a day of mourning.
He also said those responsible for the explosion at the dangerous warehouse at the port area would pay the price.
Our thoughts and prayers are with those caught up in this terrible incident.
