The Kenya Films Classification Board has submitted a film for the 93rd Academy Awards better known as the Oscars. The film titled 'The Letter' was submitted by the KFC in the Best International Feature Film Category.

The Kenya Film Commission is recognized by the Oscars and is tasked to set up a committee that decides which movies are to be submitted for the Oscars. 'The Letter' is an intimate family portrait that reveals an indestructible female power.

The Members of the Oscars Selection Committee Kenya (OSCK) are Krysteen Savane | Kenya Film and TV Professionals Association), Alamin Virani (OSCK Secretary | Kenya Actors Guild), Albert Wandago (Kenya National Film Association), Mwendwa Mutua (Riverwood Ensemble), Wycliffe Buhere Tsinje (Association of Film Producing Educational Institutions of Kenya), Dennis Mbuthia (Association of Animation Artists), Fatma Wandia (Producers Guild), Serah Mwihaki (Kenya Script Writers Guild), Patricia Mollyne Mataga (Writers Guild, Kenya) and Emily Wanja (Docubox)

KFC called for submissions for movies to be presented to the Oscars selection committee and received two films namely 'The Letter' a documentary film and 'Uradi', a feature film.

The Oscar Selection Committee vetted both films, and they settled for 'the letter' which had met the committee requirements. The Letter is a film that depicts an intimate family portrait that reveals an indestructible female power. The Documentary film was directed and produced by Maia Lekow and Christopher King with the support of Docubox, the East African Documentary Film Fund.

Executive producer Judy Kibinge said in a month or so; they will wait to see if it rises to the top to be long listed;

"'Softie' is also eligible as it screened at three qualifying festivals. So historically, Kenya now has two entries for the Oscars and even more historic, both are documentaries,"

The committee is urging producers to work with the KFC to understand the requirements of Oscars submissions.
